Sanctum 1&2 v3.4 Beta (Now Final) Release

UPDATE 9/22/2010: My schedule’s gotten busy this week, so I’ll probably have to postpone updating the Vault pages until the weekend. However, v3.4 (final) is available in the meantime from the links below for anyone who’s already installed v3.3.

– Andarian

Here’s a pre-release beta for version 3.4 of Sanctum chapters 1 and 2, for anyone who’d like to try it out. It only contains the updated parts and assumes you already have all the components needed to play version 3.3. Once I have feedback from a couple of test players that it all seems to be OK, I’ll upload the new version to the module page.

Sanctum v3.4 Beta Final Release

You’ll also need the following NWNCQ haks from here:

NWNCQ Hak
NWNCQ Patch Hak

And the updated “Patch Hak” from here:

Sanctum v3.4 “Patch Hak”

The update affects both chapters, although it has more of an effect on chapter 1 because it uses more of the baseline NWN tiles that NWNCQ revamps.
There are a few bugfixes and a couple of new features to look for, including a new entry on Robin’s “special ability” list that may come in handy. There are also about a dozen new hi-res player heads now available, chosen from Salt’s Female Head and Estelindis’ KOTOR Head packs. Also, make sure to check out the “cape-making” and cloak-to-armor conversion ability of the Cloak of Flying if you haven’t already. It’s been in there since v3.2, but I found and fixed a serious bug with it that made the cape feature disappear once you’d converted it

.

I hope you enjoy the update — let me know what you think! – Andarian

  1. All (MINOR SPOILER):

Aderyn has reported that the NWNCQ update has caused two of the spiderling egg sacs to become unreachable for bashing. It’s likely the pillar and/or ferns that NWNCQ added to the corner areas of the Ruins tileset that are causing the problem. I will need to fix this, but for the record there’s a better way to destroy the nest than to bash it that should provide an easy workaround…

    *MINOR SPOILER*

One Fire Bomb will destroy the entire nest (and there are at least four of them available in the module). Acid Bombs, Acid Flasks, and Alchemist’s Fire will also work, though you’ll need more than one of them to do the job.

  2. I’ve just uploaded an updated version of the modules that should fix the “unreachable egg sac” problem, and that also adds a new feature that’s related to an effective way of dispatching them…

  3. I’ve just updated Chapter 2 with fixes to a couple of bugs pointed out by Festerblatz. Somehow I managed to miss integrating them into the second module when I prepared the update. One of them involves a very simple but major combat AI fix that should significantly improve companions — specifically, cutting down on the AoEs when they cast spells (including healing) in combat. The companions weren’t correctly going into Combat Casting mode before, but that should be fixed now.

The patch hak also has this fixe, so you should see the change right away even if you’ve already started Chapter 2. I’d be very interested in feedback on the combat change if anyone has it. If you’ve got a saved game before a major battle in chapter 2 and are willing to re-play it after installing the patch hak and let me know how it looks, that would be especially helpful 🙂

  4. Hmm — something seems to have happened to the copy of Sanctum 2 that I updated for NWNCQ, because the one I’ve been uploading is clearly not the final copy. I’ve checked it and there’s no question that it’s missing some of the edits I *know* I made just before the weekend. So I’m going to have to re-play it and check for and make those changes again. 🙁

Fortunately those were very minor changes and shouldn’t take me long to redo. If anyone notices it in the meantime, though: yes, I know what happens when someone swims over the big rock in the lake scene. 😉

  5. I just uploaded an update with some minor fixes. That included cleaning up the patch hak, since the combat fix in it for Sanctum 2 was actually disabling the Soul-Drinker poison in Sanctum 1. New games started with the currently uploaded version should have all of those issues fixed now. 🙂

  6. Thanks for the update! Now the game looks so much better. I always thought NWN to be one of the ugliest RPGs, NWNCQ is a flicker of hope… I’m really impressed with the new forest.
    Take care!

  7. Thanks for the update it looks great, somehow there always seems to be something new to do every time I play this mod 😀

I have a couple of problems, in chapter one, I cannot see any of the spiderlings moving around and thus can’t attack them, thankfully Robin and Orion can. The other thing is that in chapter two, after the battle with the three big bad demons, the game dies in the cut scene where Diana jumps to land on top of a demon. I believe its probably some problem with this computer since it happens with the introduction movies of the game but it never happened before.

  8. Dew: I haven’t heard those particular problems before, but they sound like video card or driver issues. What card are you playing with?
